Description: Sal de Rio Maior / Flor de Sal de Rio Maior is the salt of artisanal saline source, obtained from the natural process of precipitation, of evaporated underground saline water, consisting of water, chloride sodium and other mineral salts and trace elements, exclusively from that water. It is a hand-harvested salt, unrefined, not washed after harvest and without additives.
Depending on the formation conditions and the harvesting method, the Rio Maior salt is presented as:
Description: "Salt of Figueira da Foz" and "Fleur de Sel of Figueira da Foz" are sea salt obtained by manual harvesting, from the natural process of precipitation of water from the Atlantic Ocean, consisting of water, sodium chloride and other mineral salts and trace elements, exclusively from seawater. It is an unrefined sea salt, not washed after harvest and without additives. It is presented in the form of "Sal da Figueira da Foz" (cubic salt crystals, colourless and transparent, with a characteristic salty flavour) or in the form of "Flor de Sal da Figueira da Foz" (small crystals, some of which are ar-ranged in straws, fragile and easy to undo with the fingers and that float on the surface of the water of the crystallisers).
Description: "Sal de Aveiro" and "Flor de Sal de Aveiro" are sea salt obtained by manual harvesting, from the natural process of precipitation of water from the Atlantic Ocean. It is an unrefined sea salt, not washed after harvest and without additives. Both products are characterized by being clean and free of impurities, with a bright white color and a violet aroma. "Sal de Aveiro" has an irregular shape and thick, homogeneous and compact crystals that do not break easily with the fingers. The "Flor de Sal de Aveiro" is composed of small crystals, some of which are arranged in straws, fragile and easy to undo with the fingers.
Description: “Sal de Castro Marim / Flor de Sal de Castro Marim” refers to sea salt obtained from the traditional salt pans of Castro Marim, using manual processes. It is a salt intended for human consumption, unrefined, not washed after harvesting, not chemically processed, and free of additives.
Description: The Sal de Tavira / Flor de Sal de Tavira PDO is a sea salt manually harvested in the Tavira salterns, obtained from water of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a unrefined, non-washed after harvesting and additive-free sea salt. The product is commercially presented either as Sal de Tavira PDO (floccular crystals with a cubic form, breakable up to a point with one hand) or Flor de Sal de Tavira (much more sensitive to the friction, it is composed of very thin lamellae that e come apart into very small and very light crystals at the minimum contact with the hand).
