Description: Onion of the late variety with white pulp, straw yellow skin and bulb in an elongated shape, with low acidity and low dry matter. Resistant to tangling and good conservation.
Special characteristics: It is a traditional non-genetically modified variety, called "Garrafal" adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of the Tâmega e Sousa region, with good productivity. It is a mid-season (semi-early) and intermediate-day, open-pollinated and seed-propagated variety. Sowing takes place in February – March, or in November – December. The onion harvest is carried out in August.

Product availability throughout the year: All year round.
Product history: The centenary onion fair of Penafiel (Feira de S. Bartolomeu), unique in the country, demonstrates the importance of the product in the region.
Representativeness in local food: In addition to the importance it has in the economy of Vale do Sousa and Tâmega, where it is produced in large quantities, onions are a noble product, being part of the vast majority of dishes in the region.
