Description: Roscos are simple, ring-shaped biscuits, crispy and very tasty.
Region: Municipality of Miranda do Douro.
Ingredients used: Eggs, fats (butter and olive oil), sugar, flour, milk, brandy, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda and anise.
Preparation: Mix the eggs with the sugar and mix the remaining ingredients stirring very well, finally pour the flour until the dough is hard, so that it can be shaped and let it rest for 1 hour. Then the dough is shaped with your hands and placed on trays, these cakes are presented in various shapes (circle shape, letters, among other shapes) and brushed with egg yolks. After that, they will be baked in the wood oven for approximately 20 minutes.
Know-how: The ingredients of roscos vary greatly from village to village. In some villages they replace the brandy with anise, in others they also add orange and in still others, the roscos only take the egg yolks, sugar, flour, anise and baking powder.

Product history: It is of relevant importance for the Union of Parishes of Silva and Águas Vivas, in the Festivities of the Kings and Nossa Senhora das Candeias. In these festivities, in addition to the typical ring shape, floats are also made with roscos of different shapes, which are then auctioned, and the proceeds revert to the festivities.
Representativeness in local food: Traditionally it is a winter and spring sweet, when made at home.
