Description: Prepared dish, consisting of wild boar meat made in pieces, similar to asymmetrical cubes, dark in color, with some humidity, juicy, intense flavor, distinct aroma and smooth texture. The accompaniment to the dish usually consists of boiled potatoes, fruits (apples, roasted or boiled quince, "pear drunk"), vegetables (turnip greens, cabbage or boiled turnip greens), mushrooms or chestnuts.
Special characteristics: Game dish, made with wild boar meat, cooked in an iron pot and complemented with other local products.

Ingredients used: Wild boar meat, onion, apple or quince, red and white wine, brandy, brandy or whiskey, olive oil, bay leaf, garlic, oregano, assorted peppers, rosemary and salt.
Preparation: Prior to the preparation of the dish, the wild boar meat is placed for about 24 hours, in a marinade (syrup) consisting of onion, bay leaves, apple or quince, garlic, oregano, pepper, salt, red and white wine and brandy, Brandy or Whiskey, to taste. In an iron pot, sauté (sauté) over low heat with olive oil, chopped garlic and on-ion cut into round slices until golden brown, then add the pieces of wild boar from the marinade and let it brown with the pot covered. Add the marinade liquid and stir for about 2 hours, until almost cooked. Thirty minutes before being served, a glass of brandy, brandy or whiskey (to taste) should be added and the pot should be smothered for long enough to finish its preparation.
Know-how: Macedo de Cavaleiros has long been a sought-after area for its game-related gastronomic dishes, including "Javali no Pote".

Product history: Macedo de Cavaleiros due to its geographical location, and because it is an area rich in game, has always been very frequented by hunters coming from other regions of the country. It was through the recipes (know-how) of various game dishes that this dish evolved, formerly a use of wild boar meat, a natural presence in this territory, and which appears today as one of the gastronomic delicacies of the municipality.
Representativeness in local food: A typical dish of the municipality, it has some notoriety and representativeness in the diet of the local inhabitants.
Other elements: The Confraternity of the Wild Boar, with the support of the Municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros, has been organizing since 2014, the "Gastronomic Route of the Wild Boar", an event that takes place annually, in partnership with local restaurants.
