Description: Bolinhol de Vizela, also called "Pão-de-ló Coberta de Vizela", is a cake made from eggs, especially egg yolks, sugar and flour, covered with sugar and almost always rectangular.

Preparation: Beat the eggs with the sugar until you get a thick, whitish mixture. Add the flour, beating only as much as necessary to mix well. Pour the dough into rectangular molds, lined with thick paper. Bake in a hot oven. For the frosting, brush the cake with a thick, whitish sugar syrup.

Product history: The oldest known reference to the "Bolinhol de Vizela" refers to the industrial exhibition of Guimarães, which took place in 1884, and where several types of sweets of current production in the place were exhibited, including the «pão-de-ló (bolinhol)». The history of the "Bolinhol de Vizela" and its growing prominence in local sweets goes hand in hand with the development of the Termas de Vizela and the locality itself, especially from the beginning of the twentieth century, with the completion of important works in the transport and communications network.
Representativeness in local food: Mandatory presence in Vizela's gastronomy, especially in the festive seasons of Christmas and Easter.
